Alex’s lead at the top halved

Alexandra United’s lead atop the SAFA Second Division has been cut to two points following a 1-1 draw with AMABEE at Balfour Park on Sunday.

AMABEE, who beat JDR Stars last week, continued their good run as they held the high flying Alex United in a tense encounter.

United enjoyed a good start to the game and were unlucky to go 1-0 down from a breakaway goal early on.

Within five minutes though the home side levelled matters, following a well worked one-two combination down the left flank, which ended in Katlego Manyama heading past the AMABEE shot-stopper.

Neither side managed to trouble the scorers again in what was a heated encounter.

With both Highlands and Diphiri winning their respective games, Alex United’s lead at the top was reduced to two points with six matches remaining.

Alex next face Kathorus at Huntersfield Stadium on Friday. Kick-off at 19h30.
